The Grasslands Trust

Our work

- Current Projects -

We have four site-based conservation projects running at the moment with a fifth planned for 2011: Carmel in West Wales; South Poorton Farm in West Dorset; Hocombe Mead in South Hampshire and Durham's Magnificent Grasslands. We are also trying to purchase a medieval farm in Herefordshire...so watch this space!

Visitors to Carmel's highest peak can see across to five counties

Carmel National Nature Reserve

Once under serious threat from limestone quarrying, Carmel National Nature Reserve is one of Wales' finest natural jewels. In the last four years The Grasslands Trust has been working with the Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) and BTCV to restore areas of grassland which were neglected and overgrown with scrub and woodland. Public access has also been improved so that this amazing area of countryside can be better enjoyed and appreciated by visitors.

Durham's MAGnificent Grasslands

Working with Natural England and a number of landowners across the North East of England, this innovative project focuses on protecting some of the UK’s rarest and most threatened grassland habitats.

Hocombe Mead

Work has now started to improve visitor access and open up areas where invasive rhododendrons are a problem. We are always looking for additional help, for more information contact: k.dudman@btcv.org.uk or martin.reeves@grasslands-trust.org

South Poorton - step back in time

South Poorton

A jewel in Dorset's ecological crown, this farmland has been managed in a traditional manner for centuries. Visiting this reserve is like stepping back in time.
